Triumph have made a number of significant changes to the the new Tiger. Its predecessor was based on the same single piece welded frame as the prior generation of the 800 Tiger. The new 900 features a modular frame design with the rear section now being a separate, bolt on piece. New dual radiators allow the engine to be moved 40mm forwards and 20 mm lower than before to improve the bike’s handling. At the same time, thanks to a redesigned lower casing, ground clearance remains as before. The GT Pro variant of the Tiger 900 utilises Marzocchi upside-down forks and an electronic rear shock which allows for multiple suspension and pre-load settings.

The engine features a number of significant changes including a revised firing order (1,3,2) which Triumph says improves both the engine induction noise and the low down torque. At peak power the engine performance is little changed from the 800 motor but it delivers about 11% more torque lower down the rev range where it is needed. Capacity is increased from 800 cc to 888 cc and this top spec. variant of the Tiger is equipped with multiple riding modes in addition to a quick-shifter on the gearbox.

Braking has been improved yet again with the adoption of 4 piston Brembo calipers at the front on 320mm disks. The bike now also features cornering ABS front and rear thanks to the inclusion of attitude sensors. The dry weight of the bike is a couple of kilos less than the 800 XRx.

Triumph has done yet more work to make the Tiger 900s even more comfortable for riders and passengers. New comfort touring, heated seats are fitted and as normal with Triumph, the seats are height adjustable as well. The basic seat height is the same as the 800 Tiger. The screen is improved and more easily adjustable and the handlebars have been moved 10mm rearwards which, we think, is a very good improvement. The handlebars, hand guards, clutch & brake levers can all be adjusted.

The Tiger 900 GT Pro has heated grips, heated seats, cruise control, back-lit switch gear and LED self-cancelling indicators. The new adjustable angle console is a full colour 7″ non reflective TFT display. The bike also has 12v and USB power sockets. Fuel capacity has been in creased from 19 to 20 litres for increased range. Finally Triumph has included its new Bluetooth connectivity on this bike.
